Sony might not be in its best form these days, but its phones nonetheless have a cult following. Xperia fans never fail to appreciate the beautifully unique design of Sony’s Z series, not forgetting the fully-packed features that the devices come with. The Xperia Z5 has been a sleeper hit with its great configurations, but talks about the Xperia Z6 have already started.

So keeping in mind that the Xperia Z6 is just a few months away from its launch, now would be a great time to see which one will be the best value-for-money phone between the Xperia Z5 vs Xperia Z6.

Display and Design

Sony is known for providing great screens in its smartphones, and the Z5 is no different. The Xperia Z5 sports a 5.2-inch FullHD IPS LCD Triluminous display with 428ppi, and if you opt for the expensive Xperia Z5 Premium, you get a whopping 4K display! Meanwhile, the Z6 is rumored to come in five different variants with displays ranging from 4-inch to 6.4-inch. The 4-inch Z6 might get a HD or FullHD resolution, while the 5-inch to 6-inch variants might get a FullHD or 2K display. And if Sony decides to stay on the path it took with the Z5 Premium, then the 6.4-inch Z6 might get a 4K screen.

As for the design, the Xperia Z5 gets the same design cues that the Z series is known for, though the Z5 looks more stylish and premium than any other Z smartphone before. We expect a similar design in the Xperia Z6, and it might also be slimmer and more good-looking than its predecessor.

CPU, Storage, Battery, Software

The Xperia Z5 flaunts an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor (known for heating issues) with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage expandable up to 200GB. The phone is juiced by a 2,900mAh non-removable battery and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box. By the way, the Xperia Z5 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is out now.

Not much is known about the Xperia Z6 specifications, but we are sure that the phone will flaunt the new Snapdragon 820 chipset with four Kryo cores. It will sport at least 3GB RAM (lower variants), while the top-end variants will get 4GB of RAM. Internal storage will range from 32GB to 64GB/128GB. And of course, Sony should be releasing the phone with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed. Battery capacity should remain around 3000mAh.

Camera and Other Features

The Xperia Z5 is said to be one of the best, if not the best, camera smartphones we have in the market right now. With a whopping 23MP rear camera that outperforms all the smartphone cameras out there, and the 5.1MP front camera adds to the glamour. So we expect better camera performance from the Xperia Z6, and better cameras like a 23MP/8MP or a 26MP/13MP setup would be wonderful. We also expect the Z6 to come with 4K video recording abilities with superb time lapse and slow motion options.

Let’s talk about other features now. The Xperia Z6 will surely get a fingerprint sensor without any doubt, and it might come with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor as the technology is supported by Snapdragon 820. We will be seeing a USB-Type C port, fast charging, Force Touch-like pressure-sensitive display technology, and probably an iris scanner too.

The Xperia Z6 might be launched around mid-2016, but it is rumored that we might get to know some bits about it at the MWC 2016 on February 22nd.
