They recently launched a successor to the bezel-less beauty, dubbed as Mi Mix 2. Following the trend in last year, they released a special edition with golden rim around the camera as well. Let’s pitch both the smartphones together here to see what has changed.

Xiaomi Mi Mix vs. Mi Mix 2

Since the Mi Mix 2 is not yet available in the market, we are comparing both the smartphones based on their key features including Camera, Display, Battery, etc. Once we will receive the Mi Mix 2 handset, we will update the page with performance numbers too.

Mi Mix vs. Mi Mix 2: Design and Display

The design of the new one is almost similar to the last year’s model. However, the company has reduced the display size from 6.4-inch to 5.99-inch. The aspect ratio stands neck-to-neck; 17:9 (Mi Mix) and 18:9 (Mi Mix 2). The size of the chin that houses the selfie camera has been reduced by 12% to make the device more portable.

The Mi Mix 2 weighs 185 grams against the 209 grams of Mi Mix. And, it has got a four sided curved ceramic body situated inside an aluminum frame. The predecessor lacks the frame made of aluminum.

Mi Mix vs. Mi Mix 2: Processor, RAM, and Storage

Underneath the hood, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 sports a Snapdragon 835 (with Adreno 530 GPU) processor clocked at 2.45 GHz. To recall, it was Snapdragon 821 (with Adreno 540 GPU) the company included in the previous generation. Comparing both the chipsets side-by-side, you can find out the former to be smoother and efficient.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 comes in two variants in terms of RAM; 6 GB and 8 GB. You should grab the special edition of the device to have the whopping 8 GB of RAM. On the other hand, the standard Mi Mix only has 4 GB of RAM.

When it comes to the storage, the new one is available in 64, 128, and 256 GB whereas the Mi Mix only had 128 and 256 GB to offer. We can’t expand the storage with an external SD card on both the devices.

Mi Mix vs. Mi Mix 2: Camera

Looking at the numbers, we might feel the rear camera on the Mi Mix is better provided its 16 MP sensor instead of 12 MP on Mi Mix 2. In practical, it is the other way round. Xiaomi opted for Sony IMX386 sensor for the new device. Up front, both the smartphones feature 5 MP cameras for selfies.

Mi Mix vs. Mi Mix 2: Platform

As you already know, Mi Mix and Mi Mix 2 runs on MIUI on top of Android operating system. Digging deeper, the former has MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow whereas the latter has MIUI 9 based on 7 Nougat.

Mi Mix vs. Mi Mix 2: Battery

Considering the battery capacity, Mi Mix 2 is a bit letdown. We only get 3400 mAh battery against the 4400 mAh one found inside the Mi Mix. Given the new phone has a power efficient processor, we can expect a solid battery performance from that 3400 mAh capacity. Moreover, we get Quick Charge 3.0 support to fasten the recharging process.

Mi Mix vs. Mi Mix 2:  Price

The price for Mi Mix starts at 3499 Yuan (around $536). The base variant of Mi Mix costs a bit less, 3299 Yuan (around $506). Mi Mix 2 has three more variants up to $721. The high-end variant of Mi Mix costs $614.
