Premium smartphones at low costs aren’t the only things that we love about Xiaomi. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has recently aired the Stable ROM Android 7.0 Nougat based MIUI 8.2 for Xiaomi Mi 5. This is a global launch so all the units of Mi 5 should have already received the software update notification.
To recall, a few days back Xiaomi aired MIUI 8 global Beta ROM 7.1.19 which was also based on Android Nougat for its yesteryear’s flagship Redmi Note 4. And to everyone’s surprise this time also Note 4 is eligible for the Stable MIUI 8.2 custom ROM.
The OTA Android 7.0 update in China weighs around 1.3GB. This is actually larger in size than the recent Android N updates we have seen on devices like Moto G4 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S7. The bigger volume of the upgrade package can be blamed on the Xiaomi’s own customized MIUI.
The Android 7 based update has brought the yet missing features like Smart Assistant and an easy and full control over the automated tasks. The new UI also feels changed with a different Notification bar and new chic toggles, smart sounds and ringtones and many other new customizations. Xiaomi has also updated its Feedback app with the MIUI 8.2 update.
Apart from the above mentioned new features, Xiaomi has also fixed some issues that users complained about Beta ROM 7.1.19. Important bug fixes are Wi-Fi page freeze, Screen rotation glitch in some third-party apps, the add fingerprint glitch and other bugs.
The MIUI 8.2 upgrade can be downloaded OTA from the Settings>About Phone> System Updates. The 8.2 ROM is targeted for a global audience so if you have not yet received the software update notification you can download it manually from Xiaomi’s MIUI forum. Here is the link for the same.
What about seeing MIUI 8.2 in other Xiaomi phones?

However, some unofficial reports have claimed that the Nougat is scheduled to arrive in Redmi Note 4, Mi Max after the global launch of MIUI 8.2 in Mi 5. The same report has also claimed that Nougat will not be restricted only to premium Xiaomi smartphones.
