Microsoft announced the Xbox One Scorpio quite a while ago. Furthermore, the new beefed-up version of the current Xbox One had some amazing specs. As a matter of fact, they were leaked via rumors over the course of time. However, that rosy picture is about to turn muddy because there are now rumors. Seems like Xbox One Scorpio may not feature the 8 core AMD Zen CPU at all. Consequently, here is the surprising rumor regarding the Xbox One Scorpio vs PlayStation 4 Pro debate.
Xbox One Scorpio Vs PlayStation 4 Pro – Microsoft’s new console might not meet the 6 TFLOPS
PS4 Pro has an AMD Radeon-based GPU capable of 4.20 TFLOPs. However, if Xbox One Scorpio is to deliver 6 TFLOPs, it seems unlikely that it will sport a Polaris 10 GPU. Furthermore, it would need a mighty overclock to hit that much processing power.
There is the alternative of a downclocked version of AMD’s next-gen Vega technology. Furthermore, some rumors suggest the new 4K-focused Xbox will be built around a new scaled custom graphics solution. Consequently, it will likely sit between the mid-range Polaris and enthusiast-grade Vega GP.
We will likely see an upgraded version of the Puma in the Xbox One Scorpio. This will be required if it is to meet 6 TFLOPs. For now, this is all based on rumors, just like other rumors about Xbox One Scorpio’s processing speed.
On official Xbox website, the description reads-
“The most powerful console ever, with 6 teraflops of graphical processing power. The first and only console to enable true 4K gaming and hi-fidelity VR. Compatible with all your Xbox One games and accessories.”
The rise of virtual reality and 4K televisions have forced Sony and Microsoft into a strange position. This is leading them to develop new console iterations perfect for such technologies.
