Have you wondered how some of your friends are sending texts in a strange looking font? Well, we have the answer! In its new update, Whatsapp has pushed a new font, dubbed FixedSys to the existing bold, strikethrough and italics feature collection. This update was rolled out to iOS, Android and Webapps this week. If your Play Store doesn’t show the update yet, you can download the WhatsApp APK version 2.16.189 beta via the source link below.
FixedSys is a monospaced font and was part of Microsoft Windows 1.0 way back in 1985. You may want to make use of this font to embed quotes in regular text messages.
How to use the FixedSys font on WhatsApp
To use this font, you have to type three ` symbols at the start and at the end of the text you wish to convert to this font. Example: “`This is a new hidden font“` [Without spacing between ` symbols, and first and last character of sentence].
This feature comes as an addition to the existing bold, italics and strikethrough options –
• Italics: Add an underscore (_) before and after.
- Bold: Add an asterisk (*) before and after.
• Strikethrough: Add a tilde (~) before and after.
On Android, the ` symbol is easy to locate. It’s on the second page of punctuation and symbols. On iPhones, you may struggle to locate it. Hit 123 key in the corner keyboard, followed by pressing and holding on the apostrophe.
