We tested the latest update on our own devices and found it to perform better than the last release. So, if you are enrolled as a beta tester for WhatsApp Messenger in the Google Play Store, there is no reason to avoid this update.
WhatsApp 2.17.4 sizes at 31.46 MB and comes with build number 451574. This update is applicable to all android devices running Android 4.0 and above. However, the first feature mentioned in the changelog is only available for devices with Android 4.1+.
