The 800 million user app is not only a mode of communication but there are other things for which you can use the Facebook Messenger for. Irrespective of whether you have a Facebook profile or not you can download messenger and use it. There are many ways of using messenger making it a worthy app for download. Let’s look at some of its best uses.

Make free Voice and Video calls over the Internet

Facebook messenger is not just for messaging, it supports voice and video calls over the internet. You do not need a recharge or phone plan if you wish to connect to someone to speak to them or have a video chat. The person who you wish to connect with also should have a Facebook Messenger installed in their phone.

In order to call or video chat you need to click on the phone or the video icon on the top right corner of the message window beside the name of the person you wish to call.

Transfer Money

You can use Facebook Messenger to transfer money from your bank to someone who is using messenger. It can be easily set up, just follow the below instructions:

  1. Click on the small icon with three dots next to the thumb icon, and then click “Payments.”
  2. Enter the amount that you want to send.
  3. Add your MasterCard or Visa debit card.

Normally every transaction takes up to some business days to send, it depends upon your bank. Facebook provides this service absolutely free. You can manage or add your debit cards under Payment’s in the settings tab of Messenger’s app.

Talk to Brands

Facebook has joined hands with many retailers and customer service platforms like Zendesk, allowing you to message and speak with companies just like you message everyone in your Messenger list.

For example, if you buy something from Zulily and link your order with the Facebook account, the details of your order will be sent to you on messenger. You can also request them for shipping updates and avail customer support straight in the app.

Facebook is trying to assimilate more business in Messenger but for now, you can experience this with Zulily and Everlane for retail.

Call an Uber

Facebook messenger is integrated with Uber and you can directly call an Uber without actually having to open the Uber app.

You need to log into your Uber account under the “Transportation” section of Messenger’s settings to get started.

Mute a Conversation

Sometimes notifications from a message thread could be annoying, Facebook allows you to mute such conversation threads without you having to leave it. All you need to do is click on the name of the person or group on the top of the screen you are messaging and wish to mute. Now click on Notifications and select the period of time you want to mute, your options are- fifteen minutes, one hour, eight hours, 24 hours or indefinitely until you turn notifications back on. You also have the choice of turning off the notifications entirely.
