Does the name “Rain Rain A3000” ring a bell in your mind? Because we can’t make anything out of that name. Apparently, it is the name of a smartphone that was recently spotted on Geekbench, and we are completely sure that this is just a very smart codename. The reason why we’re talking about this phone is that it is evidently powered by the second revised version of Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 820 chipset. Other smartphones with the chipset, for instance the Xiaomi Mi 5, was spotted on the benchmark site with the revision 1 of the SoC.
LeTV’s Le Max Pro is the first phone to be announced with Snapdragon 820, and it too carries Snapdragon 820 “revision 1”. The chipset flaunts a quad-core CPU with Qualcomm’s Kryo cores, and the Adreno 530 GPU. Some previous rumors suggested that an octa-core Snapdragon 820 chipset could be released in the first half of 2016, as most of the major smartphone makers prefer octa-core processors. Can this Snapdragon 820 “revision 2” be the octa-core variant of the chip? Possibly.
It is also possible that the revision 2 is just the same Snapdragon 820 SoC with some improvements in the speed and thermal management. The unknown phone that goes by the name of Rain Rain A3000 gets 4GB of RAM and Android 6.0.1. Looks like some high-end smartphone is in the making. Any guesses?
