Trickster Anime is all set to get its anime prequel on December 22nd. The prequel original video anime consists of two episodes. The first episode will tell the backstory of Kogoro Akechi and the Fiend with Twenty Faces. The second episode recounts the tale of Boy Detectives Club before the arrival of Kobayashi and Hanazaki.
The anime series’ plot revolves around Boy Detectives Club which is formed by an elusive detective named Kogoro Akechi. Things get exciting with the introduction of Yoshio Kobayashi, who cannot physically die, owing to the effects of the “Unidentifiable Mist.” Kobayashi is reclusive by nature, however, Kensuke Hanazaki tries to persuade him to join the club. The collaboration eventually leads to the revelation of the connection between Akechi and his arch enemy The Fiend with Twenty Faces.
The anime series premiered earlier this year on June 1, 2016. It was broadcast by Tokyo MX and Yomiuri TV. Later, BS11 and Crunchyroll also streamed the series. The anime is based on two novels, The Boy Detectives Club and The Fiend with Twenty Faces written by Edogawa Ranpo. The project is later expected to include a manga, a live action movie, and a stage play.
The original video anime is written by Go Zappa and Takeshi Miyamoto, who were also the scriptwriters for the television anime series. The anime is being directed by Masahiro Mukai of Hyperdimension Neptunia fame while Erika Yoshida of Tiger & Bunny: The Comic is writing and supervising the script. Peach-Pit draws the original character sketch, which are adapted for animation by Shinya Yamada of Attack on Titan.
The two-part prequel is of 50 minutes duration. The bundle will also contain an eight-page booklet and a form to win a chance of meeting the show’s voice actors in April. The bundle is expected to be priced 7,000 yen.
