Song Joong Ki reveals why’s proud of Song Hye Kyo

Of late, the Descendants of the Sun star has been busy talking about his experiences shooting for the movie ‘Battleship Island’. The movie is about Koreans who were forcefully drafted to Japan’s Battleship Island, also famous as Hashima Island. The movie focuses on events during the Japanese occupation of Korea. During a press conference for his upcoming movie Battleship Island, the actor revealed why he felt proud about his fiance.

In the past, Song Hye Kyo had rejected an endorsement deal with a Japanese company. The company had apparently used forced labor during Japanese colonial era. When Song Hye Kyo found out about this, the actress immediately rejected the endorsement deal. Song Joong Ki says he’s proud that Song Hye Kyo made that decision and that he would have done the same thing.

“I found out about this through a news article and clapped on the inside. I would’ve rejected the endorsement deal, too. It’s the logical thing to do” He adds – “The woman who made that decision is now the person I love”

Talking about his upcoming movie Battleship Island, Song Joong Ki had this to say –

“I did not know a lot about Battleship Island as a historical landmark. I thought to myself, how little would the children today know about its history if I don’t even know about it. Battleship Island’ is a commercial film, so the priority is to create an outstanding production, but I studied a lot about history during the shooting too. I immersed myself fully in the tension and pressure of the film while shooting it”

The movie premieres on July 26.
