The immensely popular “Sherlock” TV series (BBC) has been constantly topping the charts since the first season was aired. The excitement and drama spiraled upwards in season 2, and season 3 of the show ended on a high note, leaving the fans asking for more. Well, that was in 2014, and Sherlock Season 4 air date hasn’t been confirmed yet by the officials. The makers of the show did give us the Christmas special “The Abominable Bride”, but fans are hungry for the next run of the story.
There has been a lot of unrest among the fans recently about the official Sherlock Season 4 release schedule. One of the biggest reasons for that was the rumor suggesting that the show was going to end, which obviously caused an uproar on social media. All of this started when the star of the show, Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the iconic Sherlock Homes, said in an interview to GQ recently that not playing Sherlock would be like an end of an era for him.
Of course, this statement of his was twisted by the media and taken out of context. Also, it matched with Sherlock creator Steven Moffat’s recent statement that Sherlock Season 4 might be the last season. Though he did say that there are some ideas that they haven’t yet gotten into, and that the plots in Season 4 may lead to Sherlock Season 5. Anyway, all this was certainly pointing towards the possible end of the series.
But being the hero he is, the “Doctor Strange” star Benedict came forward and cleared up all the rumors. Pointing out that his words were distorted by the journalist to create something sensational, the actor said that “it is the last one for now”. He added, “We love doing the show and all I’ll say about it is that we’re all very busy, we’re all doing other things now and you’ll have to see the fourth season to realize why, for now, it’s not going to happen again at the same regularity that it has been happening. But we’ll see, we’ll never say never, and when it’s right, if it’s right, we’ll do more.”
That’s a very “safe” answer we must say. After all, Cumberbatch is busy with his upcoming Marvel film “Doctor Strange” while Martin Freeman, the other star of the show playing John Watson, is also busy in various major international projects. Let’s just hope they will stay loyal to their fans and will return for Sherlock Season 5.
As for the 4th Season of Sherlock, the release date is not yet known. Some rumors say it’s going to be out in the first quarter of 2017, but that’s just a rumor. Also, contrary to the recent rumors, Steven Moffat cleared it up that the show will continue being aired on BBC and not on any other channel. Sherlock Season 4 will reportedly introduce Sherrinford, the third Holmes brother, who may be smarter than Sherlock and Mycroft but is said to have a negative character.
With the introduction of Sherrinford Holmes, there’s going to be a lot more drama and excitement in the fourth Sherlock season. Some more interesting facts about Jim Moriarty might also come to light. So stay tuned for more updates.
