Samsung is rolling-out a new software upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge smartphones. According to reports, the new update forcefully adds Microsoft Office programs to the smartphone without the user’s permission. The device owners who faced this situation were not able to opt out of downloading the apps and were surprised to notice new Microsoft apps installed after the upgrade.
The update reportedly installs the Android versions of MS Word, OneNote, Powerpoint and Excel Apps on the Samsung Galaxy S6 / S6 edge. According to users, the update doesn’t show any info about the installation of other apps, while it was an extra 223MB download. Aside from bandwidth and the extra download time, these apps also eat up the extra storage space on the phone.
For those wondering, the most recent build number appears to be LMY47X.G925FXXU2COH2. It is worth noting the upgrade might not be accessible for you based on carrier and your area.
Samsung frequently releases new software updates for new features and security patches. This new upgrade is apparently a new era of co-operation between Microsoft and Samsung. The companies previously declared that Microsoft programs would be pre-installed on Samsung mobiles.
