Samsung Galaxy S6 and variants are next in line to taste the official Android Nougat flavor. Just a few days ago, we reported about the WiFi certification for the Nougat powered Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge+. Also, Samsung Turkey released a detailed Nougat update roadmap for all Galaxy phones including the Samsung Galaxy S6. Hence, the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the said smartphone is duly on its way and might hit anytime soon.

Galaxy-S6

Going by the Samsung Turkish roadmap, the Nougat update shall reach all international S6 variants by end of this month. The new update packs tons of features and improvements to the Google mobile operating system. For example, the Multi-window View, an enhanced Doze mode, bundled notifications, Multi-Locale language settings, new emojis, customized Quick Settings and a lot more.

Right now, the current Samsung flagships, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are receiving the Android Nougat update. Once that’s done, the Nougat update will shift course to Galaxy S6.

But, in case, you can’t wait for the official update, and want to jump the gun, a new custom ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S6, particularly for the SM-G920F model, is now available, thanks to Nexus7420 team. The name of the ROM is AOKP, and it’s based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, much advanced than the one expected to hit S6 officially.

Just to remind, it’s an unofficial Android Nougat ROM for the Galaxy S6 device. Flashing and installing custom ROMs is not recommended for regular users. MobiPicker suggests you to not proceed further if it all seems new to you.

Samsung Galaxy S6 AOKP ROM Requirements

Verify your S6 Model number

The latest ROM mentioned above is suitable only for the SM-G920F model of Samsung Galaxy S6. In case, you have a different model number, it’s best to avoid the custom ROM.

Battery Level

Before you start installing the AOKP, or for that matter any custom ROM, always check the battery level of your smartphone. It’s best to proceed with minimum 80% of battery life.

Backup your device

It’s best to have a backup when you are planning to flash a ROM on your smartphone. Store the essential data on a PC / laptop before flashing the new AOKP ROM.

Use Custom Recovery Tool

The power users must be knowing about these tools. They help in both the backup and flashing tasks on a smartphone. Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) and ClockWorkMod (CWM) are the two most popular apps for the same purpose.
