Modular smartphones are slowly picking up pace in the industry and are expected to be the next big thing in the smartphone market. And it looks like Samsung wants to cash in on this segment. The Korean giant has filed a new patent for a modular phone in which users can replace the camera module and lenses.
The new patent is based on phones with dual Xenon flash, optical zoom module, and more. The patent has been spotted on Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS) website that holds Korean patent documents.
As seen in one of the patent images, the phone gets a camera bump at the rear, which is suggestive of a removable camera module. Another image demonstrates an optical zoom module on the rear, similar to the Samsung Zoom smartphones.
A different Samsung patent document, a smartphone with a big camera sensor is shown in the patent image. Just like a point and shoot camera, the phone gets thick sides.
No more details are known as of now regarding the modular Samsung smartphone, but we do know that it might be a part of the Galaxy series.
