Accusing Airtel of not playing to the rules, Reliance Jio stated late last week that an “alarming” level of two crore calls are failing each day between the two networks.

The comments from the telco came barely a day after Airtel had promised to release the points of interconnect as per their contractual obligation.

While Reliance Jio welcomed Airtel’s announcement, it also pointed out that “the quantum of POIs proposed to be released by Airtel is substantially less than the requirement estimated based on transparent workings shared with Airtel.”

“Based on the current traffic flow between the two networks, the proposed augmentation by Airtel would still only suffice for less than one-fourth of the required interconnection capacity,” the statement read.

The company further said that urgent measures were to be taken for the sake customers of both telcos, adding it was “unfortunate that TRAI’s intervention was required for Airtel to resume augmentation of POIs, which it ought to have done by itself in compliance with its license terms.”

Airtel last week announced that it had received payments from RJio for additional points of interconnect.
