The Snapdragon 820 hasn’t been announced officially yet. But Qualcomm makes sure that it keeps updating us with specs and facts about it upcoming top-of-the-line Snapdragon 820 shipset. And in a new update, Qualcomm has revealed that the Snapdragon 820 will support X12 LTE modem, which translates into mind-blowing data transfer speeds.

The Snapdragon 820 supports Cat. 12 data speeds which will provide a download speed of 600Mbps and upload speed of up to 150Mbps. As far as we know, the Snapdragon 820 will be the first chipset in the world to get such massive upload and download speeds. Qualcomm also added that the chipset will be the first to provide support for 4×4 MIMO connections (Multiple Input and Multiple Output connections) on a single LTE carrier.
The Advanced Closed Loop Antenna Tuning feature of the Snapdragon 820 is also very interesting and is the first of its kind. It will reduce dropped calls greatly and will help in improving signal throughput on devices that get “challenging metallic industrial designs”.
Another feature of the Snapdragon 820 that Qualcomm is proud of is the LTE-U. It actually stands for “LTE Unlicensed” and allows carriers to place compact cell towers in the areas which are crowded and have high LTE demand. The X12 modem will be able to connect to the local LTE-U cell simultaneously with the regular spectrum one of the carrier operating in the area. This will result in stable and faster LTE connections.
Snapdragon 820 gets WiFi with that supports multi-gigabit 802.11ad connectivity along with a peak rate of 4.6Gbps. It also gets 2×2 MU-MIMO 802.11ac with a peak rate of up to 867Mbps. This will result in two or three times better speeds in congested networks.
The excitingly fast Snapdragon 820 will come out sometime later this year.
