Pokemon Video Game World Championships 2016 wrapped up recently and we have decided to make a list of 5 memorable things that happened at the event this year.
Pokemon Video Game World Championships 2016 was dominated by the USA
Trainers from the USA dominated all three age divisions. A blow to the Japanese trainers who dominated last year. The winners are Cory Connor (Junior Division World Champion), Carson Confer (Senior Division World Champion), and Wolfe Glick (Masters Division World Champion). There were players from other countries too such as Germany and other countries in Europe.
Groudon and Xerneas pairing didn’t win a single championship in all three age groups
Everyone’s favorite pairing Groudon and Xerneas didn’t win a single championship in all three age groups. It was on only two of the Top-8 teams in the Masters Division. Instead, the pairing that won was Kyogre and Rayquaza, and Kyogre and Groudon.
Free turns from Smeargle’s Dark Void
Trainers were able to take advantage of free turns from Smeargle’s Dark Void. It performed better than every other Pokemon. Players also built teams around Rayquaza, Kyogre, and Mega Gengar at the start of the season.
Unusual match-ups forced trainers to devise new strategies on the fly
Trainers had to devise new strategies each time they went up against Rayquaza and Kyogre. The trainers using the Rayquaza and Kyogre didn’t have much of an issue because they were used to going up against every other Pokemon they were up against.
Xerneas dominated using Geomancy
The Life Pokémon has numerous strengths, but the reason it was a dominant force during the 2016 Video Game Championships season is its trademark move, Geomancy. however, every other team was able to counter it using Paralysis or reversing turns using Trick Room
