Pokémon Sun and Moon is coming out near the end of the year, and we should be seeing a whole trail of new information about the game throughout the year. That doesn’t stop fans for speculating on what the games might have to offer, though, and one request that’s really high up on the charts is for new Pokémon Starter Types.
YouTube channel PokeMEN has posted a video (embedded below) discussing the possibility of Grass-Fairy, Water-Dragon and Fire-Electric type starters for the upcoming games. It would break the fairly lengthy tradition of Pokémon games to use the just the vanilla Grass/Water/Fire combination: a basic rock-paper-scissors combination that helps teach the elemental mechanics of the series.
The risk here, in my opinion, is that adding combinations to starter Pokémon would risk making things too confusing for new players, particularly the younger players who form the core audience for the series. It would, however, be a great way to mix things up and make for a complex game off the bat for more experienced players.
If you could have the starter Pokémon of your dreams in Pokémon Sun and Moon, what combination of types would you look for? I think a Ground type Starter Pokémon would be pretty rad, myself.
