So, you look down at your Pokedex and see an obscure little option called “Appraise”. You decide to tap on it and see what it does and you simply get messages that say “your [insert your Pokemon name] is a decent Pokemon.” or something like that. Now, you must be wondering what this has to do, if anything, with how you play Pokemon. Well, here at MobiPicker we decided to investigate this after scrolling through a subreddit and will explain to you what it is and why it is important.
What is an IV (Individual Value)
Each Pokemon is different than the other and this goes to even Pokemon that are the same. So, two Bulbasaurs may be different from one another and the reason for that is the different Individual Values on both of them. These Individual Values are a measure of the strengths and weaknesses of your Pokemon and when you “Appraise” your Pokemon you basically get an idea of how inherently good it is. So, even though one Pokemon might be stronger than the other, the weaker one has the potential to get better faster because of its high IV. So, this basically tells you which Pokemon to invest your time in.
So, a lot of Pokemon Go players wanted to know what their Pokemon’s exact IV was so they used third party tools like PokeAssist. However, if you don’t want to risk getting banned by Niantic, who are now taking a hard-line on cheats and hacks, you can use this subreddit to know what each of your trainer’s messages means and how much IV it refers to.
What do those trainer messages mean
Each team leader will appraise your Pokemon. The first comment will indicate your Pokemon’s IV and the next one will be about its stats. Here’s what all the messages mean (you can replace meme with your Pokemon name and, if you’re a fan of memes, you can also click on that link at the bottom of the message):
