Blizzard’s online multiplayer shooter took the world by storm when it released in May 2016. The game took heavy inspiration from Valve’s Team Fortress 2 but added some of its own unique gameplay elements as well. The game features a fantastic roster of heroes Each hero has a unique ability and the game relies a lot on team work and tactics. This is not a game for the lone wolf. Some good news for Blizzard Overwatch fans. We have Overwatch Athena Update and News for you guys and we want to share every juicy detail with you.

Overwatch Athena, the in-game announcer, could be a free downloadable character next weekend

Oh, did we mention the game will be free to download and play from September 9 till 12? Yes, this is very good news. We had predicted the game to go free to play at some point and it appears Blizzard might be finally taking the Team Fortress 2 approach with the game (no hats though… yet). The game will only be temporarily free so make sure you download the game within that time period. Here are the steps to follow for PlayStation 4:

Step 1: Turn on your PlayStation 4 and log in to your preferred local user.

Step 2: Go to PlayStation Store and select “Search” from the top menu.

Step 3: In the search field, type in “Overwatch.”

Step 4: Select “Overwatch Free Weekend” from the search results and then click “Download.”

Step 5: Once the download and installation process is complete, click “Start” to begin!

And for Xbox One:

Step 1: Turn on your Xbox One and log in to your Xbox Live account.

Step 2: Go to the Xbox One Store, then select “Search.”

Step 3: In the search field, type in “Overwatch.”

Step 4: Select “Overwatch: Origins Edition Free Weekend” from the search results and then click “Free Trial.”

Step 5: Once the download and installation process is complete, click “Launch” to begin!

For PlayStation 4, the download size will be 9 GB while, for Xbox One, it will be 15 GB. Also, there is the case of Athena, the in-game announcer (“Play of the game…” you’ve probably seen all the memes too). A lot of players speculate that the next free playable character might be Athena, as hinted in the Overwatch short too where a group photo contained a female Omnic robot with the Athena logo on her forehead.

Overwatch Eichenwald Map has been released and will continue to be updated

The new Overwatch map is a sight to behold. You have a castle whose front gate you are suppose to ram down with a battering ram escorted by your team. One team will be on offense while the other will be on defense. The defensive team will have to prevent the enemy team from ramming the gate down and stealing Balderich’s remains. The whole Overwatch fan base (including us) is excited for this. Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan maintains that the map will be tweaked ever so slightly all the time to keep it balanced all the time. He has also commented on his previous comments about removing characters from the game to keep it balanced. He says that currently, they have no intention of doing that and that people were just “making mountains out of molehills.”

Will you be logging into your Battle.net account this weekend to start your free Overwatch gaming? Let us know in the comments. We’ll keep you updated about more Overwatch Athena Updates. Stay tuned to MobiPicker.
