The Huawei-made Nexus 6P was released last year with high-end specs and great new features. The phone has been a success so far and has sold in great numbers, but it is still to see a tough competitor. That’s until now, as Oppo has just launched its high-end Oppo R9 Plus smartphone.
The Oppo R9 Plus is a beautifully crafted phone filled with top-of-the-line specs and features. But is it good enough to be a tough competitor to the Nexus 6P? Let’s find out.
Oppo R9 Plus vs. Nexus 6P
Design and Display
The Nexus 6P offers a sleek and well-rounded design with smooth edges and a neat and clear rear. The black front facade looks subtle, while the back is comprised of a neat black camera setup strip, a fingerprint sensor, and a large Nexus logo. Overall, the full-metal phone looks premium. The phone gets a 5.7-inch QHD screen.
The Oppo R9 Plus looks more premium with the all-metal body and the non-cluttered back. The front is simple with one home key-cum-fingerprint sensor, and the rear is plain with antenna stripe at the top and bottom and the camera setup at the top left corner. The phone comes with a 6-inch FullHD display.
Hardware and Software Specs
The Oppo R9 Plus is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 128GB via microSD slot. The phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box with ColorOS 3.0 on top.
On the other hand, the Nexus 6P gets 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage but no microSD slot; it is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU. One great thing about this phone is that it runs on pure Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
Camera, Battery, and Other Features
The Oppo R9 Plus sports a whopping 16MP camera at the front and a 16MP camera at the rear. The phone can record 4K videos. We are yet to know about its camera performance, but given the Sony sensor, we are sure it will be very good. The Nexus 6P gets a 12.3MP rear camera and an 8MP front one, and the phone is known for great low-light performance and the detailed shots that it takes with true colors.
The Nexus 6P features a 3450mAh battery, while the Oppo R9 Plus gets a 4120mAh battery. Both the phones get fingerprint sensors, but only the Nexus 6P gets NFC for Android Pay support.
Price and Verdict
The Oppo R9 Plus has been priced at CNY 3,299 (around $510) for the 64GB variant, while the Nexus 6P costs $550 for the 64GB version. So yes, the price is pretty close, but we think that the Oppo R9 Plus is the smarter choice here with better camera setup, larger battery, and more RAM. But if you want a pure Android experience and want a Nexus phone only, then you can’t get better than the 6P.
