A good thing about smartphone maker OnePlus is that the company believes in keeping up the user experience, which it does by rolling out timely updates for its phone. It was only a few weeks ago when a few updates were rolled out for the OnePlus 2. And today the company has released a Cyanogen OS 12.1 update for its first flagship, the OnePlus One. The new release has got a build number YOG4PAS3JL.

The OTA update is rolling out now and weighs 21.8MB. It might take some time for the update to reach your region. So if you haven’t yet received the update on your OnePlus One, you will soon get it. However, you can get the update manually too by following the below-given procedure.

Prerequisites

You need to download these files before proceeding ahead: [Update – Links removed as they don’t exist anymore.]

  • OTA
  • Full ROM
  • Fastboot image

Note: There is a separate procedure for rooted and non-rooted phones. Follow the one which suits the root status of your phone.

How to Install Cyanogen OS 12.1 (YOG4PAS3JL) on OnePlus One

For Non-Rooted Devices:

1. Copy all the downloaded files to the internal storage of your OnePlus One phone.

2. Now turn off the phone and activate recovery mode. To do this, press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons together till the recovery mode kicks in.

3. On the Recovery screen, choose the APPLY UPDATE option.

4. Tap on Choose from internal storage on the next screen.

5. Now choose the storage device, which should ideally be 0.

6. Now navigate to the OTA file that you copied in your phone and select it. Now tap on YES to begin the installation.

7. After the installation is finished, tap on Restart.

For Rooted Devices With TWRP Recovery:

1. Turn off your phone and reboot to the recovery mode.

2. Now in the TWRP recovery screen, tap on Install.

3. Choose the downloaded OTA file.

4. Swipe right on the Swipe to Flash option.

5. Choose the Wipe Cache/Dalvik option from the recovery menu.

6. Now tap on Reboot System.
