OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, not too long ago spoke about the upcoming smartphone that the company will launch before Christmas and while we approach to its launch, there are news about this device.
A report coming from Economic Times says that the upcoming OnePlus device will be a mid-range model priced at a range of $180-$300. OnePlus India General Manager, Vikas Agarwal says that it will be a global release but with the main focus on Indian customers.
Agarwal also mentioned that the smartphone will be a fashion and lifestyle product, not a flagship phone. These words are in line with Carl Pei’s previous statement, where he said: “different audience, perhaps for those who appreciate design over specs.”
There is a specific reason why OnePlus tries to maintain its focus on Indian market. India is a big market for OnePlus with 7% of its sales last year. Meanwhile in the first quarter of this year, OnePlus made 40% of its revenue from India.
Agarwal said that next year, OnePlus will have its own online sales site. Currently OnePlus has an online portal which redirects you to Amazon and Flipkart.
A week ago we showed you leaked images of the next OnePlus handset, allegedly the OnePlus mini. The images revealed a handset with fingerprint scanner, and dual-camera on the back. Meanwhile AnTuTu listed a smartphone with a 1080x1920p display and powered by an octa-core 2.2 GHz MediaTek MT6795T chipset. It features a 13MP camera and Android 5.1.1 pre-installed.
It is unknown if these specs belong to the upcoming OnePlus smartphone, so we’ll have to wait until it gets launched. No one from the company mentioned any date or event where it might be unveiled, but if there will be news we’ll keep you updated.
