HMD Global is a Finnish company that develops mobile devices under the Nokia brand name. The company was formed recently – in May 2016, announcing its purchase of part of Microsoft Mobile’s feature phone business, the successor of Nokia’s mobile phone business and a licensing agreement. HMD Global recently launched two new Nokia phones – Nokia 150 Single SIM and Nokia 150 Dual SIM editions.

And there’s something unconventional about these phones. These phones are what every Nokia loyalist has been waiting for. In developing nations like India, Nokia is still the preferred brand for feature phones – or “dumb” phones as they are otherwise called. It’s only recently that smartphones have taken over the traditional feature phone market. But the trend seems to be changing now, with people wanting to own a phone to exclusively use for placing calls to close friends and family. This need can best be addressed by none other than Nokia, the only brand that manufactured feature phones that won a billion hearts.

Not all users would want the premium high-end features that come with devices like Samsung Galaxy Edge. Many prefer to own a phone just to place calls. In fact, many already own a tier-2 handset for personal use. And when it comes to tier-2 handsets, Nokia feature phones win hands down. That said, it’s worth mentioning what this phone brings in for just $24. The phone comes with 2.4-inch display, featuring Series 30+ operating platform. It has a VGA rear camera, a MicroSD card slot for expansion of internal storage up to 32 GB and Dual SIM-card support. Fueled by a 1020mAh battery, it also has features like Flashlight, FM Radio and MicroUSB connectivity. The phone is light-weight and weighs just about 80 grams.

Why The Phone Is Going To Become A Hit In India

For all the traditional Nokia fans, this phone’s just got the right specs and the right “Nokia feel”. It’s different from the conventional smartphones and is also different from the age-old uninteresting Nokia feature phones. But it brings with it what the fans have been yearning for. Will this prove to be a game-changer for HMD Global? Only time can tell!
