There have been countless reports of Nokia releasing a proper flagship phone this year. Early this year, the company was rumored to have the Nokia 8 already in the works. Now, it would seem that a new rumor just came out, only this time, it pertains to a different model. Rumor has it that Nokia and HMD Global are set to release a new flagship, dubbed Nokia 9, and that it will have the best features for an Android-based Nokia mobile phone.
According to NokiaPowerUser, the rumored phone will have a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display. The display will be complemented by two 22-megapixel rear cameras and a 12-megapixel front-facing imaging sensor. Furthermore, it would seem that the cameras will still have the Carl-Zeiss lens common on previous Nokia smartphones.
In addition to the superb camera specs, the Nokia 9 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC. This chip will have the Adreno 540 GPU and will be paired with 6GB of RAM. In terms of storage, while the rumor does not point to multiple models, it is said that the Nokia 9 will have either 64 or 128GB flash storage. Furthermore, the system will run on the current Android 7.1.2 Nougat from Google.
Other interesting rumors about the Nokia 9 is the inclusion of a retina or iris scanner and fingerprint scanner for biometric security. Also, the phone will have a 3,800mAh lithium-ion battery that features Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0. And just like the Samsung Galaxy S8, the Nokia 9 will also have an ingress protection rating of IP68.
Finally, the last bit of rumor about Nokia’s upcoming flagship phone is the OZO Audio technology. For those who are unaware of this, OZO Audio is Nokia’s very own 3D spacial sound technology that is optimised for 3D audio playback on standard headphones. This type of audio technology can also be used on virtual reality or VR applications. That being said, it could be that Nokia is also envisaging VR applications for the Nokia 9.
For now, readers should treat this bit of news with a grain of salt as Nokia is yet to release a formal statement regarding the matter. Furthermore, apart from the specs stated above, there are no details said on the supposed release of the phone.
