Naughty Dog’s ‘The Last of Us’ gets a mention in ‘Game of Thrones’
If you have watched the first episode of Season 7 of Game of Thrones keenly, you’ll have observed that at around 22 minutes 30 seconds into the episode, Jaime Lannister tells Cersei something interesting – “We’re the last of us”. While it’s immediately obvious that the sentence makes a reference to the fact that Jaime and Cersei are the only Lannisters who are together on one side, The Last of Us fans will immediately relate to a quote from the game.
Not just the title of the game, the GoT episode also makes reference to a quote by one of the characters (Joel) in the game who says – “You know Ellie, we’re really the last of us”. Sheer co-incidence? Well, no! According to reports, Games of Thrones Writer and Producer David Benioff has confirmed that the reference to the game was indeed intentional.
Apparently, fans of The Last of Us and Game of Thrones had paired Joel with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau – who plays the role of Jaime Lannister – for their physical resemblance. And it is this that inspired David to have Jaime quote the line from The Last of Us!
