Design

When it comes to the layout as well as build quality, the newest Moto reflects its forerunner. There are a few changes nevertheless they’re insufficient to make both the devices different in terms of appearance. But at the same time, these changes are for the betterment. The newest Moto E is somewhat larger at 4.5 inch display compared to 4.2 inch one on the last year’s device.

The thickness of the smartphone stays same at slightly over 12mm, which in our view is somewhat of a missed opportunity for the company. While the body contour resembles the older Moto E, which had a perfect layout when it comes to ergonomics, the new phone also fits perfectly in hands. The curvy back makes the easy hold, while compact size makes it fall into the tight jeans pockets smoothly.

The plastic frame round the device is a notably change in design. It is removable and Motorola has concealed the microSD card port and SIM under it. The frame has textured finish to give better grasp on the phone. Interestingly, these frame (company calls ‘bands’) are available in three color sets which makes your Moto E more appealing. Please note, these bands are not available with the phone, you will be required to purchase separately.

If you are attracted by the theory of the bands and need to make use of them, we suggest you purchase the Moto E in white color, because on the one that is black – the coloured bands are not going to stand out, crushing the entire purpose of customization.

Finally, we could speak that 2nd gen Moto E gives better feel in hands compared to last year’s phone. Also, the phone now comes with most recent Corning Gorilla Glass protection on the display and is capable to survive wet hands and moderate water splatters.

In addition, it looks fashionable enough with the company’s logo on curved back under the back camera, which also garnished with a circular metal ring, as well as the mono speaker fixed on very top of the display covered with a grill in chrome finish. It’s clear that Motorola has designed the phone attentively.

Speaking of buttons, the 2nd gen Moto E is similar to earlier phone, utilizes onscreen navigation keys.
