Motorola has officially announced the much-awaited Motorola DROID Turbo 2, which comes with a previously-rumored shatterproof screen and high-end hardware. So let’s jump straight into the details that the company has provided us with for the Verizon-exclusive smartphone.
Talking about the phone, the Motorola DROID Turbo 2 is built around a metal frame with a flat front and slightly arched back. The phone is highly customizable and is eligible for the Moto Maker treatment, meaning you can choose between various materials, finishes, and colors to make your phone stand out of the crowd. The phone is spill-resistant, but it is definitely not meant to be dropped into the pool.
The DROID Turbo 2 boasts of a 5.4-inch AMOLED Quad HD display with a pixel density of 540 ppi. But the actual limelight is hogged by the ShatterShield technology used in the display. Made up of five layers, the display is durable and practically shatterproof and has got a four-year replacement guarantee as well. Powering the phone is a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 810 SoC accompanied with 3GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB on internal expandable storage.
Speaking of photography, the Motorola DROID Turbo 2 gets a 21MP camera at the rear with f/2.0 aperture and dual tone dual LED flash. There’s a wide-angle 5MP sensor at the front along with an LED flash. Like other Motos, you can launch the camera in this phone just by twisting your wrist. The phone gets a 3760 mAh battery that will last you a couple of days on normal usage. And with the TurboPower charger, you can get 13 hours of use with just 15 minutes of charge. Qi and PMA wireless charging technologies are supported too, but you need to purchase the wireless chargers separately.
The Motorola DROID Turbo 2 runs Android 5.1 out of the box and will soon get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade. The phone will hit the Verizon stores on 29th October and will cost $624 (32GB) and $720 (64GB) off contract. For those who wish to get the phone in installments, the 32GB variant costs $26/month, while the 64GB version costs $30/month for 2-years.
