Reliance Jio has captured the attention of mobile users across the country with its amazing tariff plan. The company is offering its free usage of its data services until December 31, 2016. All you need is a phone that supports VoLTE technology and you are set. However, the company is facing problems in the field. Right now, its plan to reach 100 million customers by the end of this year, is far from becoming a reality. One of the main stumbling block in Reliance Jio SIM card activation is the lack of eKYC facility.
To address the huge demand, Reliance had launched the eKYC process for Jio 4G SIMs. This means the process of ‘Know Your Customer’ can be done completely online. All you need is to submit their Aadhaar number. You will be asked for your fingerprint for verification. Once there is a match, the Reliance Jio 4G SIM can be activated in 15 minutes. However, this process has not been applied effectively enough, due to lack of e-KYC machines across the country.
The eKYC facility is only available in Delhi and Mumbai. Several metro cities including Bengaluru are yet to get the needed equipment. Hence, the company is facing problems in activating a large number of customers at the back-end. Users are complaining that after waiting to get a Jio SIM, activation is also taking equally long.
Reliance had expected to add one million customers each day using eKYC facility. So far, it has been able to add more than 5 lakh customers each day, which is half of its target. Reliance Jio employee has only reached five million subscribers so far.
This issue can be easily addressed by installing eKYC facility in all Reliance Digital, Xpress and Xpress mini stores. With the eKYC, the activation process can be taken online and customers can have an activate connection within a couple of hours.
