Design and Display
The 640 XL Dual SIM is a quintessential Lumia – solidly constructed using great quality plastic, having various colour choices to select from. It makes no attempt to get noticed in just about any manner, and as that will seem odd, that is not a negative thing in our view.
The Lumia 640 XL Dual SIM has a 5.7-inch 720p screen. The pixel density leaves a lot to be desired while the screen does not have any problems when it’s about viewing angles or colour reproduction. That isn’t noticeable issue on viewing images or live tiles, but as soon as you begin reading text, pixelation problems come to the force.
Microsoft’s choice to make use of a 720p screen in a play to keep the prices down is clear, but on a 5.7-inch display, is maybe a step too far. The similar issue was found in Lumia 1330 too, so nothing has seemingly changed on that front.
The pixelation issue would not have been as poor if Microsoft had stuck to a 5″ screen; that would’ve definitely helped with our other gripe with the phone – the top part of the screen is just too difficult to reach comfortably while using the device with one hand.
We have all become used to big-display cellphones, most companies seem to have stuck on 5.5-inch as the upper limit, though there have of course been outliers such as Google Nexus 6. The 5.7-inch screen is really smaller than the one of the Lumia 1320 and the Lumia 1520, but the device still feels too bulky for regular use.
