The LeEco Le 1s took the budget smartphone market by storm when it launched. Before the Le 1s, budget smartphones mostly meant decent looks and design, decent specs, decent everything. But the Le 1s changed “decent” to “great” by bringing in more value for money than ever. It came with a very attractive and sleek metal unibody, vibrant display, great specs, and a perfect price.

Following the success of the Le 1s, the LeEco Le 2 was launched a few days ago. While many buyers will choose the latest Le 2, many will still prefer the Le 1s for their own reasons. The Le 2 itself does not come with numerous changes but is still a lot improved than the Le 1s. So is it worth upgrading to LeEco Le 2?

LeEco Le 1s vs. LeEco Le 2

The Le 1s comes with a 5.5-inch FullHD screen and is powered by MediaTek’s Helio X10 processor. It gets 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. There’s a 13MP camera at the back and an 8MP camera at the front. The phone gets a fingerprint sensor, a USB Type-C port, and comes with Android 5.1-based EUI.

LeEco Le 2 Gets a Faster Processor

The Le 1s comes with a Helio X10 octa-core CPU, but the LeEco Le 2 is powered by the better ten-core tri-cluster Helio X20 processor. The phone gets 3 GB RAM just like the Le 1s, but the faster processor makes the Le 2 faster and the snappier than its predecessor. Heavy multi-tasking and gaming will be much smoother now.

Le 2 Has a Better Rear Camera

You will get a 13MP rear camera on the Le 1s that performs decently. However, the Le 2 gets a 16MP rear camera that is significantly better, thanks to the larger sensor and better aperture. So yes, we expect the overall image quality to be crisper than the Le 1s.

Marshmallow Out of the Box

The Le 2 runs on EUI 5.5 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box, while the Le 1s gets Android 5.1. This bump in the software will let you enjoy the latest Marshmallow features like Doze, new app permissions, smoother UI, etc.

Le 2 Looks Better

Even though the design hasn’t changed much, the LeEco Le 2 looks better than the Le 1s. The larger, squarer camera sensor looks more in line with premium smartphones. Even the fingerprint sensor is now square-shaped, making it look more savvy. The two antenna bands at the top and bottom of the rear panel add some depth to the overall design.

Final Verdict: Should You Upgrade to the LeEco Le 2 from the Le 1s?

If you already own to the Le 1s, then the LeEco Le 2 will not be a major upgrade. It offers a slightly better camera, a slightly faster processor, and Android Marshmallow along with minor design changes, which are not a reason to upgrade. But if you don’t own the Le 1s, then remember that the Le 2 costs almost the same or even less, as it is priced at $170. So it will be better to buy the LeEco Le 2 than get the older Le 1s.
