In case Microsoft’s new Lumia 950 and 950 XL seem unnecessarily expensive to you, you can now get yourself an affordable low-end Windows 10 smartphone. Called the Katana 01, the phone is powered by Windows 10 Mobile and is made by Freetel, a Japan-based company. The phone will be available for sale in Japan starting November 30th.
As for the specs, the Katana 01 packs a 1.1GHz quad-core processor and features a 4.5-inch display with a decent 480 pixel resolution. Memory-wise, it gets 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage, which is further expandable up to 32GB. A 1,750mAh battery keeps the lights on. A 5MP rear and 2MP front shooter make up for the photography department of the phone.
The Katana 01 is a dual-SIM device and will cost JPY 12,800, which is roughly around $105. In case you wish for more powerful specs, the Katana 02 is “coming soon” according to the Freetel website. The successor will carry a 5-inch Full HD screen, an 8MP primary camera, 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage. Release date for the Katana 02 is not known yet.
