We are thrilled to announce that Intel launched 8th generation Intel Core Processor U-series. It is for notebooks and 2 in 1s, and it is going to increase performance by 40% over 7th generation chips.
They started with Kaby Lake Refresh processors, that is for notebooks with lower power. When Intel launches new generation, they would most likely make a new architecture that would be improved than last one, but this time, there are changes in architecture, a higher number of CPU cores, threads, and a faster graphics engine.
For now, Intel launched four processors:
- Intel Core i7-8650U
- Intel Core i7-8550U
- Intel Core i5-8350U
- Intel Core i5-8250U
All of this processors have 4 cores, and 8 threads. Their boost clock is from 3.4 GHz for Intel Core i5-8250U, up to 4.2 GHz, for Intel Core i7-8650U. Their cache is 6 MB L3 for i5 processors, and 8 MB L3 for i7 ones. The price is not really too much higher though. Intel Core i5 processors are priced at 300$, while i7 processors are at a price of 400$. For new chips that are just launched, this seems as a good price.
There are some technologies added to this processors too.
Intel Speed Shift Technology is special kind of technology where CPU adjusts the frequency faster than OS. This allows the system to be quicker to requests. It means that it is a faster way for CPU to go from idle to an active state. It can actually raise the performance up to 50% for some requests.
Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 is a technology that boosts CPU when it is able to do so. If there is no damage for boosting CPU, and if it is in a need to get boosted, this technology increases the frequency, until the upper limit is reached. If it is dangerous to boost CPU, for example, the temperature is too high, Turbo Boost technology will postpone the boost and save the power.
Hyper-Threading Technology is a technology that supports up to eight threads, which improves the performance a lot.
Intel announced that they made another generation of high-quality processors, and they will be capable to stand all needs of modern technology. 4K Ultra HD video, 360 degrees videos, and premium streaming is something that these chips are going to take care of with no problem. Intel also mentioned that these chips are going to extend battery life. By using a power efficiency engineering, performance is going to be delivered, without sacrificing battery life.
We are waiting for Intel’s next announcement. We can only be sure that technology has a very bright future.
