Valve has announced that they will be launching a new set of VR experiences for the HTC Vive, titled collectively as the “The Lab”. The Lab will take players back to Aperture Science and the Portal universe.

According to Valve, the virtual reality experiments will take place in “a pocket universe” of the facility, which kind of rules out major characters like GlaDOS or Chell from appearing. The experiences will also have room-scale applications of VR, in order to fully demonstrate the capabilities of the HTC Vive.

The Lab will be made available for free in Spring. Obviously, it will be on Steam. More info on the experience will be revealed at the upcoming Game Developers Conference, which runs from March 14th to March 18th. That’s only next week, so expect information soon.

This is not the first time Valve has used the Portal universe to demo the HTC Vive. The recently released SteamVR Performance Test tool also ran a brief experience set in the world of Portal.
