The users of HTC One (M8) Verizon version are now getting notifications for upgrades to their devices. These updates aim at protecting them the most recent bug, Stagefright vulnerability, which can take control of your device’s camera and microphone as well as steal personal data.

Stagefright was named in a multimedia library that is being used by Android users since Android 2.2 Froyo. It is a bug that was haunting almost the entire Android user population, and, since its discovery, manufacturers have rolled out upgrades to various smartphones to get rid of the bug.

Once you receive the notification for the update for your HTC One (M8), make sure you have at least 50% battery and a secure Wi-Fi connection before you begin to download it. If you don’t have the notification yet, there is nothing to worry about; the upgrade is being pushed through OTA and it may take some days to reach you.
