Helio X20 chipset has been made official today by Mediatek. With 10 cores, this is a world’s first tri-cluster design chip. This kind of architecture on a processor has been seen first time.
With four power efficient Cortex A53 Cores clocked at 1.4 Ghz, another four clocked at 2.0 GHz and last two Cortex A72 Cores clocked at 2.5GHz for best in class performance. To achieve a tri-cluster design MediaTek has used a custom Interconnect IP called MediaTek Coherent System Interconnect (MCSI).
The chip supports 802.11 ac dual band Wi-Fi along with LTE Cat. 6 and CDMA 2000. As compared to Helio X10, the power consumption has been reduced by 40% for encoding and 30% during decoding videos by the new Helio X20 chip.
Heliox X20 chip comes with 2xLPDDR3 memory running at 933MHz. Exact GPU model is not know currently, however it is expected to be from Mali T800 series. Only time will tell how this world’s first tri-cluster design chip will perform.
