Back in October 2016, Matthew McConaughey turned down the offer to play the role of the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The reason behind his decision remained unknown, and it was hard to believe considering the fact that he would’ve been fit for the role. However, now, the actor finally decided to reveal why he rejected the role.

Matthew McConaughey Explains Why He Turned Down The Role Of A Villain In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

During a recent interview with PlayBoy, Matthew McConaughey claimed that he loved the original Guardians Of The Galaxy, but playing the role in the sequel didn’t sound that much appealing to him. He said that it felt like Marvel decided to improve the movie through the addition of another big-name actor. “I like Guardians of the Galaxy, but what I saw was “It’s successful, and now we’ve got room to make a colorful part for another big-name actor.”

However, the main reason behind his decision was because he was playing the role of the Man In Black, Walter Padick in the upcoming Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. He stated that the script of The Dark Tower was very well written, but what he liked most about it was his control of his character, like doing his own thing instead of playing a role of someone famous in the Guardians. He said that he played the role of the Main In Black like he was “the Devil having a good time, getting turned on by exposing human hypocrisies wherever he finds them.” So he pretty much enjoyed it.

Matthew McConaughey’s Success

Matthew McConaughey gained popularity after playing the role of David Wooderson in the 1993 comedy film, Dazed, and Confused. He also managed to win the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for playing the role of Ron Woodroof, a cowboy diagnosed with AIDS, in the critically acclaimed film, Dallas Buyers Club.
