With Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ out in the open, it’s time to turn the attention to new Google Pixel devices due for launch later this year. Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were first spotted as “walleye” and “muskie” on the Android Open Source Project Gerrit. And today, the same “walleye” codename has made an appearance in an Engineer’s discussion with another member.
While no specs related info has leaked through the source, it does stamp the presence of new Pixel devices in work. There are rumors of Google introducing three variants of Pixel smartphones: Pixel 2 (codenamed Walleye), Pixel 2 XL (codenamed Muskie), Pixel XXL (codenamed Taimen). While the rumors depict three offering from Google, we think the search giant isn’t certain about the bigger display size, and will eventually decide on one before release.
However, it’s all but certain that Google will pack the latest hardware and software in its smartphone offering. Without further ado, let’s see the chat image making rounds over the internet.
As you can notice in the image above, the engineer David Zuethen has made a direct reference to “Walleye” as a new smartphone running some new code. Sadly, no other info leaked from the discussions. But, you should be on the lookout for the same codename in future to learn more about the upcoming devices.
Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are expected to launch in the third or fourth quarter of 2017 so it’s more than certain that we will notice more leaks and rumors in upcoming weeks.
