Gionee has been quite busy unveiling budget smartphones in the previous year, but except one or two handsets, the company hasn’t been able to attract attention towards any of its devices in particular. Probably the Gionee Marathon M5 with a large battery was the only recent launch that we remember about the company, and Gionee needs to launch some serious devices in order to get back in the competition. Well, looks like Gionee is already aware of it, as a new upper-midrange Gionee has been spotted on a benchmark website.
A new smartphoned called Gionee W909 (probably a prototype) has passed through the Geekbench benchmark database and seems to be an unannounced phone. A couple of major specs of the phone have been revealed through the data, and the Gionee W909 looks very promising. To give you a clear view of the scenario, the W909 is sporting a 2GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU with the Mali-T860 GPU. The chipset under the hood is MediaTek’s Helio P10. Then there’s a chunky 4GB of RAM, and coupled with the P10 SoC, it should provide seamless performance to the phone.
The Gionee W909, as seen in the Geekbench database, is running on the now-old Android 5.1 Lollipop. However, if the device comes after a couple of months or more, it will easily glide its way to Android 6.0 Marshmallow and launch with the latest Android firmware. So anything can change between now and the launch of the phone, and we expect this phone to come with more goodies like fingerprint sensors, great cameras, huge storage options, etc.
We don’t know when the Gionee W909 (or whatever it will be called) will be announced officially. No more specs or pricing information has been leaked yet. But we are sure the rest of the details will follow today’s leak very soon. So stay tuned!
