The next installment in the Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) novel series may get delayed. Earlier author George R R Martin had confirmed that Game of Thrones: The Winds of Winter will arrive in 2017. But it looks like the fans will have to wait for some more time as the 2017 release is unlikely.
The Winds of Winter 2017 release unlikely
George R R Martin has provided an update on this next novel Winds of Winter. It looks like the author took a break from the sixth installment of A Song of Ice and Fire and contributed to an upcoming short story collection The Book of Swords. “My friend Gardner Dozois, long-time anthologist and winner (many many times) of the Hugo Award for Best Professional Editor, has a big new fantasy anthology coming out this fall. It’s called THE BOOK OF SWORDS, and it’s about… well… swords. Y’know. ‘Stick ’em with the pointy end’ “, writes George R R Martin in his update.
Although Gardner is one of this oldest friends, George R R Martin makes it clear that The Book of Swords is not his book and that he hasn’t edited it or even co-edited it. In the past, Gardner and Martin have done Old Mars and Old Venus together. They also did Songs of Love and Death and Down These Strange Streets together. They have also done the award-winning cross-genre anthologies Warriors, Dangerous Women, and Rogues together. But they haven’t done The Book of Swords together.
Martin to focus on The Winds of Winter after A Book of Swords
The Winds of Winter will be Martin’s focus after working on A Book of Swords. Responding to a complaint by a fan on his blog post titled “Doom, Despair, Defeat” about the long delay between the novels, George Martin had written – “Not done yet, but I’ve made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year (But hey, I thought the same thing last year). Since the author took a break contributing to A Book of Swords, 2017 release of The Winds of Winter seems unlikely.
