Since February this year, Korean media channels have been reporting that Samsung may release a refurbished edition of Galaxy Note 7 this year. Fresh details suggest that the Galaxy Note 7 refurbished model would be launching as Galaxy Note R or Galaxy Note 7R.

The original Galaxy Note 7 was launched in August last year. However, the fault with its battery led to explosions across the world. Samsung had to recall the Galaxy Note 7 twice and it had to finally discontinue it in October 2016. However, the South Korean company seems to be determined in relaunching the Note 7 phablet. It is speculated that the Note R or Note 7R would be assembled in Vietnam.

It was reported earlier that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 would be launching alongside the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ on March 29. However, it did not come true. The probable reason behind it is that the Galaxy Note R or Note 7R did not receive approval from regulatory authorities on time.

Sam Mobile had reported in the previous month that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 is codenamed as Grace R (letter R refers to Refurbished) and its model number is SM-N935. Previous reports have stated that the Galaxy Note 7R would be targeted towards customers in emerging markets.

Fresh information suggests that the Galaxy Note 7R would be launched as a new smartphone, but it will continue to sport the same design and specs as the original Note 7. The phablet would be assembled in Vietnam and it would be arriving with a smaller battery. Earlier reports have suggested that it may either feature a 3,000 mAh or a 3,200 mAh battery.

Some sources have revealed that the Galaxy Note 7R may be available for purchase by June this year. Samsung will want to release the Galaxy Note 7R at such a time that it does not disturb the sales of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ phones that will go on sale from April 21. Also, it will also want to release the Note 7R well ahead of the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 that is pegged to get announced in August this year. It is likely that the Galaxy Note 7R would be arriving with an affordable pricing.
