Samsung has given a complete overhaul to its “A” series of smartphones, and the Galaxy A3 (2016), Galaxy A5 (2016), and Galaxy A7 (2016) have already been launched by the company in early December 2015. The new phones look great in the metal avatar and offer better specs than their predecessors. However, it looks like Samsung wants to add more to the new A5 and A7, as we have come across new variants of the Galaxy A5 (2016) and Galaxy A7 (2016) on China’s TENAA site.
How can we say that these newly certified phones are different from the older ones? Well, the Galaxy A7 (2016) and Galaxy A5 (2016) that were certified earlier by TENAA carried model numbers SM-A7100 and SM-A5100 respectively. However, the new variants we are talking about come with model numbers SM-A7108 and SM-A5108 respectively. Also, in the TENAA images of the new phones, we can notice that there is the China Mobile branding on the back of the phones. This suggests that these models might be exclusive to the aforementioned mobile carrier.
There are some differences in the new variants and the already-launched variants of the Galaxy A7 (2016) and Galaxy A5 (2016). The new SM-A7108 model of the A7 comes with 32GB of onboard storage, while the original A7 (2016) gets only 16GB internal memory. Meanwhile, the new SM-A5108 model of the original A7 (2016) comes with 3GB RAM, which is 1GB more than the original model. The new A5 model also gets a 32GB storage option, while the original one gets just 16GB of onboard storage.
Nothing more can be made out of the listing. We think that these models will be released only in China, but the bump in RAM and storage in the new A5 will be desired by buyers from other countries too. Let’s hope these variants get announced soon.
