Dead Rising 4 is out soon, and as we know it’s missing the iconic timer present in all the other games. Capcom talks why they made this decision.

Dead Rising 4 has no timer

“When you had the timer you had to throw everything into the player’s path. Here it’s trying to make the player explore the world and find out things about it.” (via Eurogamer)

Removal of the timer isn’t a bad thing. It’s the best thing that could happen to the series in our opinion. It added nothing but stress and is the reason as to why many players never replayed the first game. The timer is also the reason why many players won’t replay the third game. Modern players don’t care if it’s a core feature. Most of them really hate it a lot. And we don’t see how a timer saves it from being just another zombie game as the common misconception is. Dying Light was just another zombie game too, and it was still awesome.

There are already several other things that make Dead Rising 4 stand out from the crowd other than a time limit. It already has the comedic aspect, the crazy weapons (crafting as well as using pretty much anything as a weapon), the photographing, the psychos. Now if they replace that timer with yet another mechanic that makes the game unique, that’s fine by many players. But we personally won’t miss the timer itself.

Dead Rising 4 is an upcoming open world survival horror beat ’em up video game developed by Capcom Vancouver and published by Microsoft Studios for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One.
