One of THE greatest “under the radar” games ever made was made available to PC recently. The graphics are awesome, the controls are spot on, the combat is satisfying, the voice work is spot on, and the experience is total enjoyment. Furthermore, developers of Darksiders Warmastered Edition released a PC patch to improve the experience even more.
Darksiders Warmastered Edition PC patch revealed
There is a fix for AMD performance problems. Fix for users with Non-ANSII character based usernames that had problems to get config saved / loaded. Also, if you had working keyboard config load / save, then copy your keyboard configuration to the new place. You can read the rest of the patch notes on Steam.
If the game is crashing upon launch after this patch – go to Appdata\Roaming\kaiko\darksiders1 and delete the config files. The game launches fine after this. Regarding the AMD fix, a lot of players are getting between 55-110 FPS in the intro sequence now. There is some occasional stutter but the intro sequence never really ran as well as the rest of the game anyway. So, it’s not exactly an issue. It’s playable now so good work.
Darksiders Warmastered Edition looks really nice downsampled from 1440p. It runs exactly the same as in 1080 too, so that’s nice. It would be a good idea, now that the framerate problem has been fixed, to implement a frame limiter in the game that does not introduce input lag like vsync does. Getting too many FPS is a problem now (coil whine and high operating temperatures).
