5 Alternative Games to enjoy while you wait for a Batman Return to Arkham release date announcement

The games we will list here might not contain all the elements that were in the Arkham games but they are still somewhat similar in terms of being open world.

Watch Dogs

Kicking off the list is Ubisoft’s “downgraded” open world RPG that is a hybrid of parkour, stealth, and hacking. “Execute the biggest hack in history” as you run around the streets of Chicago hacking other people’s bank account to fill your online coffers. Then go buy all the guns and ammo at the local guns shop (or just rob the place) and go on a crazy streak.

Okay, so all joking aside. We loved Watch Dogs and highly recommend this game. It doesn’t have the same level of verticality as batman (climbing on the top of buildings and such) but it’s still a treat to play. The side quests feel repetitive but the main story campaign was a treat. You can buy the game along with its excellent story DLC here.

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

I don’t think we even need to give a lengthy explanation for this. I mean what are you doing right now if you’re not playing Witcher 3! The game has been heralded as one of the greatest ever made and definitely the greatest open world RPGs of all time and we tend to think the same. Download Witcher 3 from Steam here.

Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain

This one has a lot in common with the Batman games in terms of stealth. You also have fancy gadgets. It’s a bit more hardcore than the Arkham games even if you decide to turn on quick time events which temporarily slows down time whenever you’re caught. It’s a treat to play. The open world of Afghanistan and Central Africa offer you such a large amount of ways to play the objective.

Grand Theft Auto 5

Grand Theft Auto 5 is the game that keeps on giving. We had our qualms with the game’s online when it first released but Rockstar has more than just fixed the problems with online now. There is so much to do even if you don’t want to play online (which you definitely should, it is cray!). The singleplayer story campaign is still a treat to play. You can replay missions to get the coveted gold rank. Then there’s the Rockstar editor which lets you make movies in the game.

Batman The Telltale Series

Batman the Telltale series has only had one episode released so far and it looks fantastic. If you are someone who is looking for some amazing superhero narrative experience with little emphasis on action then this is just for you. Telltale are renowned for critically acclaimed titles like The Wolf Among Us and the GDC GOTY winning The Walking Dead. Suffice to say, you won’t be disappointed. Check out the game here on Steam.
