For the owners of Asus ZenWatch 2 and 3, we have a bad news. Both the smartwatches were confirmed to receive the Android Wear 2.0 update earlier this month, but Asus delivered nothing but a massive shock. In a response to a ZenWatch 2 owner asking about the Android Wear 2.0 update, the twitter handle of the ASUS North America noted that the same won’t happen until Q2 2017.

In case you are wondering, Q2 2017 is from April 1 to June 30. This essentially means that the update expected to be rolled out a few days ago is now potentially 3 months away. We are not sure how this would fare with the ZenWatch owners who invested so much money on a smart wear.

For those who can’t remember, Asus ZenWatch 3 was announced in August last year, before going on sale in December 2016. The smartwatch measures 45 x 45 x 10.8 mm and weighs 48 gram. It features a 1.39-inch AMOLED circular display with a pixel density of ~287 PPI. It is powered by a custom Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB internal storage. Asus ZenWatch 3 comes in three color variants: Gunmetal, Silver, Rose gold. The device is IP67 certified – dust and water resistant.

As far as the Asus ZenWatch 2 is concerned, the same was released in September 2015. It sports a 1.63-Inch AMOLED display with 320 x 320 pixels resolution. The smartwatch is powered by Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 chipset and 512 MB RAM with Adreno 305. Internal storage of ZenWatch 2 stands at 4 Gigs. This one too is IP67 certified – dust and water resistant. The Gyro sensor is missing on the first generation Asus ZenWatch.

There is no specific release date for the next update to the above devices, but we will update this space once more info surfaces.
