The OpIcarus campaign by Anonymous against the banking sector is advancing further with eight more financial institutions suffering DDoS attacks during the past few days. The first DDoS attack was reported on the Central Bank Of Greece, followed by similar attacks against the Central Bank of Cyprus few days later.
The attack has intensified since then, with reports of hacks coming across the globe and from multiple Anonymous divisions such as Ghost Squad Hackers.
@Op_Icarus, the official twitter handle for the operation reported this weekend about DDoS attacks on the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, the Guernsey Financial Services Commission, the Dutch Central Bank, and the Central Bank of Maldives. Now, new reports are coming from hacking news magazine HackRead which reads about attacks on the Central Bank of Kenya and the National Bank of Panama.
s1ege, the member of the Ghost Squad Hackers tweeted about a DDoS attack on the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina while Anonymous member BannedOffline also tweeted about similar attacks on the Central Bank Of Mexico.
In less than a week after the official announcement, the Anonymous hackers have infected more than 10 banks on their list of 160 financial institutions which includes big names like US Federal Reserve Bank, the World Bank, the IMF, the New York Stock Exchange, and Bank of England.
