Tech blog Mobilesyrup shared a leaked document which shows the Canadian carrier Telus will begin rolling out Android Nougat to various smartphones on Aug 22, Monday. Google had announced that Android 7.0 Nougat would be released during summer. The tradition of Google’s nexus devices receiving the update first continues. The rollout is expected to happen for Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and Blackberry Priv.
Android N was named Nougat in late June by Google. After the fans voted for Android N name, no significant official announcements have been made by Google. The final Android N developer preview was made available in July. As with all major OS releases, the official release is imminent once the final developer preview is out. So it’s fair to expect the official rollout to happen at the earliest, Aug 22 to be precise, if the leaks are anything to go by. However, Google is yet to officially announce rollout plans. If the leaks are true, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X will be the first among the existing smartphones to receive the update immediately.
As reported by idigitaltimes, 2016 Nexus smartphones featuring Android Nougat are expected to release soon. LG’s V20 may be the first non-Nexus smartphone to run newest Android version out of the box. The phone is expected to be launched in September. If rumors are to be believed, HTC is manufacturing both a high-end phablet and mid-range smartphone for Google and at least one of these may resemble HTC 10 and feature Android N. While the wait continues for Android N update, the release date for high-end Nexus smartphones, named Marlin and Sailfish, are also yet to be announced by Google. Both these smartphones are expected to sport a Snapdragon 820 or 821 and 4GB RAM with 13MP rear camera and 8MP front camera.
It remains to be seen when Google will officially announce Android N rollout plans and the release dates for Marlin and Sailfish.
