At the recently held Computex 2017 in Taipei, Taiwan, AMD confirmed that the company’s forthcoming Naples server chips would be rolled out in June 2017. And now it seems like keeping true to its earlier commitment, the United States-based semiconductor company is prepping to launch Naples on June 21, i.e. less than 24 hours from now.
The news broke after AMD’s China unit confirmed the Naples release date earlier today on social media. To be formally launched under the brand name EPYC, Naples is expected to lock horns with Intel Xeon.
The forthcoming lineup of Zeppelin-based EPYC CPUs will ship with a core count of up to 32 and rather impressive I/O capabilities.
According to a leak by Videocardz, the fastest of the EPYC 7601, the fastest among the EPYC 7000 series processors will come with 32 cores and 64 threads. The base and boost clock speeds stand at 2.2 GHz and 3.2 GHz respectively while the TDP is maintained at 180W. As for the single socket lineup, EPYX 7551P is the fastest chip in the series and it will also come with 32 cores and 64 threads. Its base and boost clock frequencies stand at 2.0 GHz and 3.0 GHz while the TDP remains the same at 180W.
Note that AMD has previously said that the EPYC chips will flaunt up to 45% higher core counts, 60% higher I/O capacity, and more than 122% memory bandwidth compared to their Intel counterparts.
A recent AMD demo comparing the performance of a Naples chip with that of an Intel Xeon E5-2650 had shown the former faster between the two (up to 4 seconds).
