The largest telco in India, Airtel, launched a new offer consisting of 12-months’ worth of free data in an effort to beat Reliance Jio and its free offer, which proved to be very popular among users.

Airtel unveiled the new offer on Tuesday, giving users free mobile data worth up to Rs. 9,000 for 12 months. The offer’s main goal is to entice users to switch to Airtel’s 4G network and is available for both new and existing Airtel users.

The free data offer is available starting Wednesday and will be up for grabs until February 28, 2017. Airtel customers will receive 3GB of free data every month until December 31, 2017. All they have to do is to subscribe to selected Airtel 4G postpaid plans or to use selected Airtel prepaid plans.

Postpaid users can make use of the offer if they select any MyPlan Infinity plan, which gives them local, STD, and roaming call benefits, free messages, different amounts of mobile data, and a free subscription to Wynk Music and Wynk Movies. Postpaid users can claim their 3GB of mobile data via MyAirtel mobile app.

The statement from the company reads, “The offer can be availed only within the first 30 days of purchasing or upgrading to a new 4G handset.” This means existing users can avail the offer, but they must upgrade to a 4G handset.

As for the prepaid users, they’ll receive 3GB of free data with every Rs. 345 unlimited calling recharge, which includes free local and STD calls as well as 1GB of data for one month. In other words, with one calling recharge users can get 4GB of data in total. Users have to activate data offer via MyAirtel app, and all future recharges will instantly activate 3GB of free data. Free data will last for 28 days, and can be received for a maximum of 13 data recharges until December 31, 2017.

Ajai Puri, Director of Market Operations at Bharti Airtel, said that

“We are inviting customers to experience 4G through the year on India’s fastest network. We are seeing increasing penetration of 4G handsets across the country and believe that this attractive offer will provide an opportunity to more and more customers to enjoy high-speed broadband on their devices with Airtel.”

Will the new offer from Airtel retake some of the customers who switched to Reliance Jio? We’ll wait and see. Is the offer good enough to make you switch to Airtel? Let us know in the comment section below.
